In a few months it will be two years since we have founded Eatron. We have achieved a lot in these two years and yet much more still needs to be done to create a sustainable brand and operation. Why Eatron is a common question we get often, and this is what I want to talk about today.

The founding members of Eatron are all coming from the automotive industry, especially from the areas of controls, software and electronics. We have all developed/calibrated software@ECUs (electronic control units) for engines/transmissions and/or for electric vehicles/batteries. In the last 15 years we have personally experienced the rise of software & electronics in automotive. We have seen how it radically started to affect automotive companies and landscape. During this time, we have also realised that software is a common weak spot and problem for the industry. There are many reasons for that; some we know and understand and the others we don’t know well.

The Automotive industry has a legacy dominated by mechanics, combustion, aerodynamics and design ingenuity. Software had not been part of this journey up until lately. Moreover, automotive executives don’t embrace radical change, which is not surprising for a well-established industry. Therefore, the general reaction from these executives to software, and to a certain extent to electronics also, was to keep it to a minimum as much as possible.

With the arrival of electric autonomous connected vehicles however, it became clear that automotive industry cannot avoid facing its weakest spot, i.e. “automotive software”. And to make things more challenging, with the arrival of AI, suddenly the software world became even more alien and unfriendly for the traditional automotive organisations.

With this background Eatron came into life. Automotive industry needed urgent software solutions for electric and autonomous mobility. This software solutions needed to involve cutting edge machine learning methods as well as advanced control theory to satisfy the ever-rising demand for safety, robustness, efficiency and comfort. Eatron team, with their deep experience in automotive embedded software & electronics and expertise in advanced controls/AI/ML, was perfectly positioned to help the evolution of the industry.

In order to support development of electric vehicles we identified battery management software as the key success factor since the battery is the most expensive and delicate part of an EV architecture. Performance of the battery directly affects driver experience including range and safety. Hence, now we are developing BMStar to offer a state-of-the-art AI enabled battery management software solution for the industry.

On the autonomy side, it was very clear to us that industry and society needed L2&L3 ADAS solutions immediately. Although many players have spent (and still spending) huge sums on the full autonomy, anyone with good automotive software/systems experience could see that such systems could not be validated and certified for general automotive use in the near future. Hence, we decided to focus on L2+ ADAS solutions as a first step to bring safe and comfortable driving to masses. Therefore, Eatron’s other product is L2Star which is an automotive grade & AI powered L2+ ADAS solution for all production cars.

Both battery management and L2+ ADAS software are fast rising segments. Good system solutions are in high demand for the foreseeable future. In both cases what’s really needed is robust, automotive grade intelligent embedded software solutions suitable for production applications. These are exactly the key features we are targeting at Eatron. We believe, by offering such critical solutions to OEMs and Tier1s, we are helping the industry move to a better, safer and greener future.
