One Year of Eatron Japan

It has been one year since Eatron opened its Tokyo office in 2025, marking an important step in the company’s long term commitment to Japan’s mobility and energy ecosystem.

But Eatron’s Japan journey began much earlier, grounded in shared principles of safety, quality, and engineering excellence – values deeply embedded in Japanese industry and closely aligned with Eatron’s culture.

How It Started

Eatron first engaged with Japan over four years ago through a collaboration with a Japanese cell manufacturer, introducing its battery AI capabilities to the local market.

In August 2022, Eatron CEO Dr Umut Genç visited Japan as part of UK Research & Innovation’s Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP) in Battery Technology, helping shape the decision to establish a permanent local presence.

The same year Masa Nakamura joined Eatron as Business Development & Partnership Director. Working closely with Head of AI Dr Ugur Yavas, Masa played a key role in establishing early customer relationships, technical credibility, and trust across the ecosystem.

More recently, Rita Liu joined Eatron to support business development and project delivery, strengthening local execution capability.

A Local, Patient Approach

Japan rewards long‑term thinking. Eatron focused from the outset on being present, engaging at a technical level, and building credibility over time.

This included:

  • Ongoing engagement with OEMs, Tier‑1s, and suppliers
  • Participation in industry events, panels, and technical forums
  • Direct technical discussions on battery safety, AI optimisation, and system performance
  • Multicultural project delivery led by Japan‑based team members

This approach led to growing customer interest, pilot projects, and the foundations for long‑term partnerships.

Why Japan Matters

Japan’s engineering culture is built on safety, precision, and Monozukuri, closely aligning with Eatron’s AI‑based Battery Optimisation Software (BOS).

Eatron’s technology focuses on:

  • Predictive safety
  • Accurate State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH) estimation
  • Extended battery lifetime
  • Improved EV and ESS performance
  • Software‑defined architectures

These capabilities are already being delivered through pilot projects and customer programmes in Japan.

The Team Behind the Progress

Eatron’s progress in Japan is enabled by a strong local team.

Masa Nakamura continues to drive trusted relationships and ecosystem presence, while Rita Liu supports execution through disciplined project delivery and close customer engagement. Local presence matters. Operating in Japan has been essential to building credibility and momentum, supported by ongoing technical engagement from Dr Ugur Yavas with customers and industry forums.

One Year On

Since opening the Tokyo office, Eatron has engaged multiple customers across EV and ESS markets, expanded technical and commercial collaborations, participated in leading industry events, and seen increasing market traction and parallel project activity.

Thank You

Eatron thanks its customers, partners, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and GX programme, and UK Research & Innovation for their trust and support in establishing and growing the company’s presence in Japan.
